We will be studying the industrial era during the late 1800s and early 1900s. As part of this unit we will look at immigration at that time. Students will be asked to talk to family members about their family history. Where does your family come from? What cultural traditions do you have? Students will record a simple family tree or bring one in if it has been created already. Students will also be asked to bring in one item that represents their family. Family crest, coat of arms, photo, heirloom (or photo of heirloom), etc. We will be celebrating our diversity and how that creates a unique American culture. This is NOT a formal research assignment. I encourage dialogue between students and parents/grandparents, etc. This will be due Monday, February 20.

Our next test will be in the form of a debate. We are starting a unit on the causes of the American Revolution. Students will be analyzing the facts and determining why some colonists supported the king and others opposed him. ALL classwork will be relevant to the debate in some way. Students should review their class notes at home to organize notes so they can see what arguments support their view and which oppose it.
